Intellectual Property
Stevenson, Hood, Thornton, Beaubier LLP lawyers have extensive experience in intellectual property matters.
Terry Zakreski has been a registered trademark agent for over ten years and has successfully prosecuted numerous registrations for a wide variety of clients, large and small. In addition, Mr. Zakreski has considerable trademark and patent infringement court experience. In the landmark patent case, Monsanto v. Schmeiser, Mr. Zakreski represented Percy Schmeiser at his Federal Court trial, his appeal before the Federal Court of Appeal, and finally the Supreme Court of Canada.
Mr. Zakreski was successful before the Supreme Court of Canada in having a large judgment against Mr. Schmeiser for profits and costs reversed and narrowly missed (4:5 vote) in having the patent declared incapable of providing Monsanto patent rights over plants growing in farmers' fields.
